Sun Princess Cruise Ship Bar & Restaurant Guide

Princess Cruises recently announced the definitive list of restaurants and dining on board the new-for-2024 Sun Princess cruise ship. Travelista Editor Jessica Ruth Gibson shares a full lowdown in this easy-to-understand Sun Princess dining guide.

A huge part of any cruise experience is the on board dining, and it’s important to choose a cruise ship that fits your taste, budget and dining style. Having done three Princess cruises myself, I can confirm that the standard of food on their ships is excellent and you could easily do a Princess cruise without spending any extra money on food. So much of the Sun Princess dining is inclusive even on the Princess Standard cruise fare; from a la carte restaurants to poolside dining.

Dining and Drinking aboard Sun Princess

Sun Princess Dining At A Glance

Thanks to the updates recently revealed by Princess Cruises, Travelista can confirm that there is a total of 29 new and signature dining and lounge options, the vast majority of which are included in your cruise fare. Beyond the many inclusive options there are also 5 speciality restaurants which are available to book for a very reasonable surcharge per head. To start, let’s take a closer look at what is included in the Princess Standard cruise fare, and what isn’t.

What’s Included on a Sun Princess Cruise with the Standard Fare?

There are 3 fares to choose from when doing a Princess cruise; Princess Standard, Princess Plus and Princess Premier. Princess Standard is the entry level fare, yet still includes so much from a dining perspective. Guests on the Princess Standard fare can still enjoy drinks packages and speciality dining options that are available for a very reasonable surcharge.

  • Multi course a la carte dining in The Horizons Dining Room
  • Buffet dining at World Fresh Marketplace
  • 24 hour dining at International Cafe
  • A daily afternoon tea
  • Poolside burgers, hot dogs and pizza by the slice
  • Soft serve ice cream
  • Popcorn on movie nights under the stars
  • Tea, coffee, water and juice available from early morning to late at night in World Fresh Marketplace
  • Milk and cookies

What’s Not Included on a Sun Princess Cruise with the Standard Fare?

  • Casual dining at Alfredos, Kai Sushi and O’Malley’s
  • Speciality a la carte dining at Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, Crown Grill, Umai Teppanyaki and The Catch by Rudi. A reservation can be made for these restaurants and a surcharge applies.
  • Alcoholic drinks – beers, wines and spirits (drinks packages are available)
  • Canned soft drinks
  • Daily gratuities (these are automatically added to your cruise fare so no on board tipping is required)
  • Speciality tea and coffee from the various bars on board
  • Juices and smoothies
  • Bottled water

Sun Princess Restaurant Guide

In terms of standalone a la carte restaurants on Sun Princess, there are 8, then other options are classed as speciality dining. I’ve been lucky enough to dine at many of the speciality restaurants during my cruises on Regal Princess and Enchanted Princess. I was so pleased to hear these returning favourites will also be on board Sun Princess. Here’s an overview of what to expect in each of them;

Inclusive Dining

The following restaurants are inclusive of your Princess Standard Fare.

Horizons Dining Room – New for Sun Princess is the three-storey Horizons dining room with capacity for 1,931 guests. The traditional main dining experience is elevated on Sun Princess with stunning wake views and natural light that highlights a decorative sculpture that stretches from deck 6 to deck 8. The great thing about the new Horizons concept is that the three dining levels offer different dining experiences and a range of levels of formality, including the Horizons Diner on Deck 8 which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner favourites all day long. For the full experience, be sure to dine here on every floor.

Sun Princess Horizons Dining Room Deck 6

World Fresh Marketplace – This is so much more than your average buffet. World Fresh Marketplace has undergone a huge transformation, inviting guests on a journey of flavours from around the world. With 9 food stations ranging from Mongolian barbecue and tapas stations to Asian stir fry and Panini stations, there is something new to taste on every single visit as well as reoccurring and fixed favourites. On my recent Mediterranean family cruise, my family and I loved dining at World Fresh Market Place as it was so quick and convenient. We’d definitely recommend it for families.

Further informal food outlets are inclusive of the Princess Standard fare and located around the ship such as International Cafe and the poolside Lido Grill, Lido Slice and Lido Taco.

Casual Dining (surcharge)

The following restaurants cost $14.99 per person for pre fixe dining or individual selections with a la carte pricing  If you are booked on Princess Plus (£50pp per day), you have 2x casual dining included per cruise. If you are booked on Princess Premier (£65pp per day), you have unlimited casual dining.

Alfredo’s Pizzeria – Voted the ‘best pizza at sea’ by readers of USA Today, Alfredo’s is not to be missed. This fantastic pizzeria is located within the Piazza and is inclusive of your cruise fare. It’s worth noting that the fantastic pizza here is also rivalled by Slice, the ship’s poolside pizza bar on the Lido deck. We’d say Alfredo’s is more rustic and Italian in style and Slice is more American in style, but both are oh-so delicious.

Kai Sushi – A modern and elegant sushi bar adjacent to the heart of the Piazza, Kai Sushi offers spectacular views from the Sphere window with a vast array of sushi and sashimi specialties, plus signature rolls like Crispy Lobster Tempura, Wagyu Tataki, and Asparagus and Salmon. Guests can enjoy mouthwatering bites from intimate tables or watch sushi crafting at its best from expert chefs at the traditional sushi bar. It’s all freshly made to order.

Speciality Dining (surcharge)

The following restaurants are classified as speciality dining. The incur a surcharge of between must be booked in advance. At the time of writing this article, the speciality dining surcharges range from $35-$39 per head which covers a 5 course meal. If you are booked on Princess Premier (£65pp per day), you have 2x speciality dining included in your fare.

Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria $35pp – Watch pasta being made fresh every day in an all-new pasta room with sweeping circular windows. Sabatini’s is the ship’s elegant and very authentic Italian restaurant and definitely my favourite of all of Princess’ speciality restaurants. A meal at Sabatini’s is an entire experience, from the exceptional Italian hospitality from the staff to the fresh handmade pastas and high-quality produce sourced straight from Italy. Be prepared to feast and indulge at Sabatini’s.

Crown Grill $39pp – Crown Grill offers guests another unique dining experience on board Sun Princess and is the ship’s signature steak house. Everything about this restaurant is elevated, from the unique menu of salts to accompany your steak (try the pink Himalayan), to the sumptuous menu of red wines designed to compliment your steak perfectly. If you’re not a steak lover, there are still plenty of options to enjoy at Crown Grill. Two members of our cruise party were vegetarian and they were provided with great suitable alternatives at Crown Grill.

Umai Teppanyaki (Charge TBC) – Exclusive to Sun Princess, Umai Teppanyaki is a feast for the senses, offering a fusion of top cuisine and showmanship. Here, highly skilled masters of teppanyaki take centre stage, using their fiery skills and flair to entertain on a sizzling hot grill. A night at Umai Teppanyaki is always one to remember.

The Catch by Rudi $39pp – Guests can enjoy a pop-up dinner concept from renowned Chef Rudi Sodamin. Expect creative dishes such Oysters on the Half Shell with red-and-pink peppercorn Mignonette; Calamari with seasoned panko coating and lemon aioli; Mussels Provençale with crusty bread for dipping; and a Catch of the Day lineup.

Unlock Even More Restaurants with The Signature Collection

A new level of suite accommodations, the Signature Collection, includes access to the new Signature Restaurant (Deck 7) and Signature Lounge (Decks 15/16), while guests booked in the Reserve Collection of mini suites and cabana cabins will have access to the Reserve Collection Restaurant (Deck 7). Both private dining areas offer exclusive menu options that include a Prime Rib Carving Trolley as well as an expanded list of chefs’ culinary creations. Guests can expect a world of flavours and unique combinations in a luxurious and intimate environment.

Sun Princess Bar Guide

Each of the many bars on board Sun Princess offer a totally different vibe depending on your mood. Here’s a run down of the various bars on board Sun Princess

Good Spirits at Sea – Hands down my favourite bar on board any Princess cruise ship. Good Spirits at Sea is an entertainment experience in itself. Take a seat at the bar and watch the skilled mixologists whip up drink creations. Whether you’re after the perfect classic margarita or something you’ve never heard of or tasted before, they have you covered. The staff here are so friendly and entertaining, and will always remember your name and face. A must visit if you love cocktails and want to learn a little about mixology.

Lido Bar – The Lido Bar is as casual as they come and is the perfect place to pick up a refreshing poolside drink. Choose from beers, soft drinks and freshly blended cocktails and mocktails.  As the name suggests, the Lido Bar is located right by the pool. Look out for the menu of desert cocktails for something extra indulgent.

Crooner’s – Head to Crooners and step back in time to the classic Sinatra era. Here you can expect talented pianists to keep you entertained and a famous menu of signature martinis and timeless cocktails.

Bellini’s Cocktail Bar – With a prime position in the centre of the Piazza, Bellini’s Cocktail Bar transports you to a world of glamour. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a night out on the ship, sip and savour your favourite drink while enjoying the Piazza entertainment and dazzling panoramic views from the massive Sphere window.

Wheelhouse Bar – The Wheelhouse Bar offers a unique dining experience coupled with fantastic entertainment. Here you’ll regularly find guitar and vocalists and during the day this venue doubles up as a Cruise Staff activities room with games, trivia and presentations.

Sea View Terrace – The new Sea View Terrace and Bar is located at the front of the ship and offers a modern-yet-cozy lounge space for taking in the best ocean views. What could be better?

O’Malleys Irish Pub – A popular new pub also on Enchanted Princess, O’Malley’s joins Sun Princess as a traditional Irish pub with live music, interactive entertainment and mouthwatering menu items including the freshly-ground ribeye-blend Bushmills Blue Burger and the O’Malley’s Burger patties, dressed with Bushmills Whiskey glaze.

Wake View Terrace – The wake view (at the very back of the ship) is personally our favourite vista from any cruise ship, and the perfect spot to enjoy a drink as the sun goes down. Sun Princess’ brand-new Wake View Terrace features an infinity pool and a South Beach-style resort deck as well as a bar, of course!

The Best Place for Coffee on Sun Princess

Coffee Currents – Coffee lovers can awaken their senses with artisanal coffees ground and made exclusive to Sun Princess. Skilled baristas whip up the perfect drink to suit every taste alongside freshly baked pastries and treats. Guests can grab their caffeine fix to go or linger over a coffee while enjoying Piazza entertainment.

Sun Princess Drink Packages

Are all drinks included in the Princess Standard Fare? No, but if you book Princess Plus or Princess Premier,  they can be. Sun Princess drink prices vary but these packages are a great way to control your budget and spending whilst on board. These same packages will also be on offer on Sun Princess and there a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks packages to choose from.

As we’ve already established, tea, coffee, water and juice is available throughout the day from the Sun Princess buffet – World Fresh Market Place, and Horizons Dining Room (chargeable in other venues), but unlike the food, I don’t think you could do a whole cruise without spending a little money on other drinks. In terms of Sun Princess drink packages, here are the options;

  1. Princess Plus – £50pp per day USD per day

The Princess Plus package includes the ‘Plus’ drinks package, which covers any beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) up to $15. A great option for the kids, this drinks package includes all soft drinks, fruit juices, cocktails and smoothies.

Prices are correct at the time of publishing and subject to change.

Sun Princess Room Service

Another brilliant aspect of the dining on Sun Princess, and all Princess Cruises ships, is that room service is available 24 hours a day. You can order anything from the Sun Princess room service menu 24 hours a day using the innovative MedallionClass app

If you are booked on Princess Plus or Princess Premier, room service is included. If you are on the Princess Standard fare, you pay a one-off charge of $14.99 to use OceanNow and order room service through the app as many times as you like, or you can use the stateroom phone to order, which comes at a $5 charge every time. Beyond the order charges, a large section of the room service menu is entirely inclusive of the Princess Standard fare.

Pre-ordering breakfast to your cabin is a really great option if you’re up and out early for a day in port and is included in the Princess Standard fare. Simply fill in the breakfast order form in your room and leave it outside your door with a requested delivery time. And if you’re staying in a cabin with a balcony, we also recommend a slow and leisurely breakfast on your balcony (particularly on sea days). And for your sea days, we recommend the Ultimate Balcony Breakfast for something extra special.
