Food & Fashion in Kefalonia
When I think back to my May trip to the Greek island of Kefalonia there are two words that spring to mind; food and fashion.
Food, because we indulged in the most delicious, tastiest and fresh local produce. Every meal we had was better than the last and this trip reminded me just how incredible Greek food is. Fashion, because I had the pleasure of going away with a group of fabulous fashion and lifestyle bloggers. I learned so much from them and it was fascinating to see their different style of blogging and content creation. This is a photo post dedicated to the food and fashion of Kefalonia.
The Food
If there’s one thing the Greeks love it’s cheese! Beyond the staple of Feta there are all sorts of cheeses, all of the salty variety. We stopped for lunch in Argostoli and indulged in deep fried feta cheese with drizzled honey on top. So naughty, and so delicious!
No trip to Greece would be complete without a fresh Greek salad. The combination of tomatoes, cucumber and feta is so simple but so tasty. The tomatoes in Greece are so fresh and bursting with flavour, and this dish is so easy to recreate at home.
F Zeen Retreat’s menu specialised in Greek classics with a modern and healthy twist. I absolutely loved these falafel bites, which were lightly fried in oil instead of being throw in the deep fat fryer. I liked them so much I ordered them twice! The perfect option for a light lunch.
As well as eating at F Zeen Retreat we dined at a local restaurant in Lourdas called Lorraine’s Magic Hill. It’s right next door to the hotel and has the most wonderful staff and friendly atmosphere. The food is made with love and is prepared by Lorraine herself. I ordered the famous Moussaka, an indulgent dish with layers of fresh aubergine, mince and béchamel sauce, topped with potato. This is Greek comfort food at its best.
On our final day in Kefalonia we were treated to a wine tasting experience at Gentilini, a famous Vineyard in Kefalonia that ships its wines all around the world. We learned all about the wine making process before sipping on rose, white and red wines in a tasting session.
To accompany the wines we nibbled on fresh tomatoes, soft goats cheese and fresh bread, dunked in local olive oil and sweet balsamic vinegar. The combination of flavours was absolutely incredible and although it was so simple, this was one of my favourite meals in Kefalonia.
The Fashion
I ordered this glamorous printed cut out jumpsuit from ASOS especially for my trip to Kefalonia. I love the print and cut away detail under the bust. It’s so easy to wear and looks super stylish by the pool. A perfect holiday outfit.
This beach cover up is from Monorails and Satellites, a premium beach wear brand that specialises in stylish beach dresses. I love the print of this dress and the material is amazing quality. The hem is elasticated so you can wear it as a midi-dress or as a shorter dress as shown here.
When I think of Greece I think of white and bright scenes, which is exactly why I packed this white Zara smock dress. It’s so easy to throw on and looks instantly stylish.
Within the reception of F Zeen Retreat is a beautifully curated boutique selling beachwear, sandals and locally made jewellery. The pieces fitted perfectly with the stylish surroundings of the hotel and there was so much I wanted to buy!
There was also plenty of fashion inspiration on offer from the other bloggers on the trip. Josie of Fashion Mumblr had the most beautiful outfits, including this gorgeous bardot maxi dress from River Island. She had ‘Greek Chic’ totally nailed.
Going away with fashion bloggers meant more time dedicated to outfit shoots! This is the complete opposite to when I go away with travel bloggers, when the focus is all about the destination rather than the clothes. The lovely (and newlywed) Katie from Kalanchoe even brought this Bridal halter neck lace maxi dress from Missguided for a sunset shoot on the beach.
