A guide to Sun Princess: a brand new cruise ship for 2024

What’s new onboard Sun Princess?

If you already know and love the Princess brand, you’ll find things that are both new and familiar on board Sun Princess. Firstly, there’s the newly-designed, glass-sphere Piazza with venues such as Bellini’s cocktail bar, Alfredo’s Pizzeria and Kai Sushi. Sun Princess also welcomes The Dome, a cutting-edge glass-enclosed entertainment space, inspired by the terraces of Santorini. Here guests will be able to watch mesmerising entertainment headlined by Cirque Éloize, providing original contemporary circus performances.

Sun Princess also welcomes Park19, the most engaging family activity zone ever featured on a Princess ship. One familiar feature is the award-winning Lotus Spa®, which will be spread across two storeys..

Sun Princess is the first of ]Princess Cruises’ new Sphere-Class and will be followed by Star Princess in 2025. It’s the first Princess ship to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), and will offer the cruise line’s largest, most premium stateroom, the Sky Suites, accommodating up to five guests. Premium Ocean View staterooms provide guests with a sea view (with a window rather than a balcony) and the Deluxe Balcony rooms provide you with your own balcony and outdoor seating. For additional space and luxury, there are  mini-suites, new cabana mini-suites, suites and the ultra luxury Sky Suites

There are also spacious wheel-chair accessible staterooms for guests with limited mobility which feature a roll-in shower or transfer shower as well as an easy-access closet and accessible writing desk.

For the ultimate in exclusivity, Sun Princess introduces the Signature Collection. In addition to premium stateroom amenities, Signature Collection Suites include access to the Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge and Signature Sun Deck, a private area of The Sanctuary.

Entertainment on board Sun Princess

By night, the Princess Arena comes alive, and will offer the most technologically advanced performance space on any Princess ship. The space can shape shift into different performances spaces, including in-the-round, to suit a variety of production shows. Whether you’re an experienced cruiser or it’s you’re first-time, you cannot fail to be impressed by the phenomenal entertainment on board, with talent and productions to rival those on Broadway and The West End

Beyond the Princess Arena,  Sun Princess will offer guests a daily programme of entertainment that starts from early morning to late at night. Other entertainment venues on board include The Piazza (for live music and entertainers) as well as Princess Live!,  where guests take part in game shows and quizzes. We promise you, no two days of entertainment are ever the same onboard a Princess cruise.

We at Travelista  love that there is also a great programme of meet-ups and events for single-cruisers meaning that solo travellers have an opportunity to meet like-minded people during their cruise.

Feel free to get involved in as much or as little of the entertainment as you like during the cruise. It’s your holiday, and the entertainment isn’t for everyone. The good thing is that whatever is going on throughout the ship, you’ll always be able to find a quiet and peaceful spot away from the action, if that’s what you want.

Sun Princess for Families

A common question people are asking is; Is Sun Princess family friendly? With so many new features created specifically for children and families, the answer is a resounding yes. There are so many great family friendly features on board Sun Princess that we’ll be publishing our own dedicated Sun Princess Cruise Family Guide (coming soon). For now, here’s an overview of the family friendly facilities on board the new Sun Princess.

Park 19

The headline new addition to Sun Princess is Park19, a new adventure space created for families and thrill-seekers alike. At the back of the ship, spanning across the top 3 decks, Park19 offers a range of fun outdoor activities including splash zones, a 360 degree observation deck from the highest point of the ship, a climbing wall and ‘Sea Breeze’, the first rollglider on any cruise ship. Sea Breeze promises a thrilling and unique experience at sea for the whole family. The addition of Park19 is a huge asset to Sun Princess and arguably makes the ship the most family friendly of the whole Princess Cruises fleet.

Sun Princess will also feature two new standalone youth and teen centres, as well as a dedicated kid’s club. Access to all of the clubs are available to guests at no extra cost, providing a brilliant, safe and engaging child-care option to parents and a place of independence for kids at any age. The clubs are categorised as follows;

Firefly Park – Catering for children aged from 3 – 7, Firefly Park also offers an evening babysitting service from 10pm to 1am which is charged at $5 per hour (subject to change).

Neon Grove – The new Neon Grove is exclusively created for ‘tweens’, aged between eight and 12 to hangout, socialise and have fun away from parents.

The Underground – Located adjacent to Neon Grove on deck 7 is The Underground, a hangout exclusively for teens aged between 13 and 19.

Other family friendly aspects of a Sun Princess cruise include;

  • Kid’s menus, highchairs and booster seats in the main a la carte restaurants
  • Opportunities to meet Stanley Bear, the ship’s costume character and Princess Cruises’ mascot
  • Access to all pools on the lido deck at any time of day
  • Family friendly staterooms – where a family of 4 can sleep comfortably in one stateroom
  • Mini-suites have room curtain dividers to create separate spaces for adults and children
  • Movies Under the Stars featuring a variety of child-friendly films
  • Live theatre shows in the Princess Arena
  • Gameshows and challenges in Princess Live!
  • Family tracking through the Medallion Class app

Fitness Facilities on board Sun Princess

There are so many ways to stay active and burn energy whilst onboard Sun Princess. Beyond everything that Park19 has to offer for kids and adults alike, there’s also an open-air jogging track where guests can walk, jog or run in different lanes. 6.7 times around the track is equal to one mile, and there are markers to help you track your progress.

Within the recreational court there’s also a programme of ball games such as table tennis and shuffleboard, as well as Xponential fitness classes, such as PureBarre and CycleSix, and even a morning meditation. Morning Zumba on the deck is always a firm favourite for Princess gueststoo. It’s an amazing way to energise yourself before starting your day at sea or on land.

Last but certainly not least is the state-of-the-art gym and fitness centre with its own studio for fitness and spin classes. Personal trainers are also readily available to help guests with some one-to-one training. With floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the entire gym, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a workout with a view
