Boutique Bliss at The New Hotel, Athens

You probably know by now that I am picky when it comes to hotels. I want to my hotels to be boutique, luxurious and above all, in a fantastic location. When choosing a hotel, I really do my research and prefer to trust personal recommendations rather than opinionated Trip Advisor stories.

For my upcoming trip to Athens, I reached out to a contact who is based on the Greek island of Kefalonia for a recommendation. My contact regularly visits Athens on business and he told me he stays at The New Hotel every time. After weighing up a few other options, I decided to make The New Hotel my first choice. And after experiencing The New Hotel for myself, I would happily recommend it to you too.

I stayed at The New Hotel for 3 nights during my city break to Athens in early March and it ticked every box for me. Firstly, the location is perfect. On one side, it’s a 5-minute walk to Syntagma Square which is Athen’s grand Parlimentary square. Connected to this square is the main shopping street of Ermou. It’s also nestled on the edge of Plaka, Athens’ picturesque and charming Old Town which is a must-visit for all tourists. Being based at The New Hotel makes everything walking distance in Athens.

Secondly, The New Hotel is as boutique as they come. With fascinating features and creative furnishings, it’s one of the coolest design hotels I’ve ever stayed in. All the details feel one-of-a-kind and made to measure, which adds to the premium feel of the hotel.

Thirdly, the hotel felt wonderfully luxurious. There is a spa with a menu of heavenly treatments and the service from all the staff is five star and above. The receptionists at the front desk are happy to help you plan your day, book your dinner reservations and provide really handy directions. Nothing felt too much trouble.

Our stylish corner room had two spacious balconies and floor to ceiling windows, meaning the Athens sunshine poured in from sunrise. On our first morning at the hotel I got up super early and managed to catch the first golden glow of the day. Adorned in bright gold features, our bathroom definitely had the Midas touch and was a design feature in itself. Another box ticked for me.

The wonderful breakfast buffet is available alongside a small menu of made-to-order dishes. The cappuccinos are poured to perfection and the freshly baked croissants are heaven on a plate. I indulged in one every morning of our stay!
