A Weekend of Luxury at The Westbury Dublin

At the beggining of this month I was invited to experience 24 hours in Dublin with a handful of fellow travel and lifestyle bloggers. As part of this trip I was lucky enough to enjoy a night’s stay at The Westbury Dublin, one of the leading 5* hotels in the capital. Never one to turn down the chance to enjoy a little bit of luxury, I was excited to see what The Wesbury had to offer.

On Arrival

After landing into Dublin International Airport without a hitch, we were met by Frank, the charming hotel driver who was to take us over to the Westbury. Frank took our bags and gave us a warm Irish welcome to the city. After a short 20 minute transfer, we had arrived outside the grand entrance of The Westbury Dublin.

As we walked up the polished marble staircase to reception, it only took a few seconds to realise the interior was even grander than the exterior. On the first floor of the hotel lies the hotel reception and The Gallery, a grand salon area perfect for relaxing with drinks and enjoying a traditional Irish afternoon tea. After check-in we were offered a refreshing cloudy lemonade welcome drink in The Gallery and I quickly started to relax into the glamorous surroundings.

The Room

I always love the moment I swipe my keycard into a new hotel room. It always comes with a combination of excitement and suspense, and The Westbury Dublin didn’t disappoint. My studio suite and hugely spacious and felt much more special than a standard hotel room.

The studio suite had all the luxury amenities you would expect from a 5 star hotel, and much more! A nespresso machine, a fruit bowl, chocolates, fluffy white robes all added to the hotel experience.

The huge black marble bathroom was readily stocked with luxury lotions and potions, meaning short-breakers can leave all the heavy toiletries behind such as shampoo and conditioner – hooray!

The Presidential Suite

After checking in to our rooms we were given a tour of the hotel, ending in the ‘piece de resistance’ of the hotel, the Presidential Suite. Many an A-Lister has enjoyed a stay in the suite and after seeing it, I can understand why. The huge suite has it’s own bar, sauna and steam room, a decadent lounge and separate bedroom. It also has a walk in closet big enough to house a pop-up gym for any guests that fancy a private workout. Simon Cowel, Jonny Depp and Whitney Houston have all stayed here, so that’s one high profile bed!

At the end of the tour we were treated to a gorgeous glass of champagne and a canapé lunch in the Presidential Suite, all specially prepared by Head Chef Sandeep Singh. The delicious canapés showcased some of Irelend’s local produce and included crab and salmon crostinis, quinoa and chicken salad cups and mini beef fillets on roasted potato.

Afternoon Tea in The Gallery

No stay at The Westbury Dublin is complete without afternoon tea in The Gallery, so on Day 2 of our stay this was our final treat before flying back to London. Two comfy sofas next to an open fire and surrounded by grand channellers set the scene perfectly for an indulgent afternoon tea – it had to be the best seat in the house!

We were offered a glass of champagne to start, but I had more of a craving for tea, so I left out the alcohol and enjoyed a classic Irish breakfast tea. We started with a selection of finger sandwiches that were served on individual plates and included honey roast ham on granary and egg mayonnaise on milk bread (the Irish equivalent to white bread) Following the tasty sandwiches came the main event, the sweet tiers! We were spoilt for choice with so many bitesized pieces of naughtiness, but I chose to indulge in a freshly baked scone with jam and clotted cream followed by a handmade salted carmel ball which was absolutely out-of-this-WORLD!

The Location

After spending a weekend exploring Dublin, it didn’t take long to realise how amazingly well located The Westbury is. The hotel sits right in-between two areas of the city; the up-and-coming creative quarter (with all it’s trendy bars and ‘hipster’ style coffee shops) and the shopping mecca of Grafton Street, lined with high street shops, traditional Irish pubs and luxury department store Brown Thomas. For a central and versatile location in Dublin, I can’t possibly imagine a better hotel to stay at than The Westubry.

The Verdict

My stay at The Westbury Dublin was an absolute delight from start to finish. I enjoyed decadent food, plush surroundings and fantastic service. Along with some very thoughtful extras, all these things made the whole trip very memorable. The friendly staff cannot do more to make you feel welcome and it’s lovely to see that so many of them are proud Dubliners that know the city like the back of their hand. If you are thinking of booking a luxurious short break in Dublin, I would recommend The Westbury in a heartbeat.
