7 Steps for a Luxury Spa Experience at Home

If you read my blog regularly, it’s likely that you love to travel and enjoy a little bit of luxury in your life. You dream of discovering far away lands in a glamorous fashion whilst taking your senses on the wildest of adventures. So do I! But often, real life gets in the way of our luxury travel fantasies and we have to get through those distinctly average days where nothing remotely ‘instagrammable’ happens. You know the type, right?

So this blog post is all about revealing how you can bring a little 5 star luxury into your home – it’s time for some DIY! I’ve teamed up with distinctive design experts Heritage Bathrooms to share my favourite pamper products and reveal how I use them to bring some luxury into my own home. Even when I use these products on a Monday night in London, their scents are enough to transport me off to a much more exotic location.

Follow these 7 steps to create a luxury spa experience in your own bathroom…

Step 1: Put away your technology

The first step on your quest for domestic escapism is to put away your technology. Any media from the outside world will distract you from your relaxation time and remind you of where you are in the world. Turn off the TV and put your phone in a drawer. It’s time for some you time!

Step 2: Create a Spa Ambience

I’ve been to some incredible destination spas around the world (my favourite ever being Four Seasons Sayan in Bali). One thing they all have in common is a beautiful ambience and aromatherapy fragrance. Set the scene at home with some relaxing candles to fill the air with tranquillity.

Products I love:

  • Secret Garden Lily Flame Candle – I love this candle because it can fill a room with a fresh forest scent in 15 minutes. I keep this by my bedside table and light it almost every night when I’m at home. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 5/5
  • White Company White Rose Candle – Finding White Company products in your hotel bathroom is always a nice surprise, and I love using White Company products at home too. This White Rose candle is a sophisticated rose scent with hits of white lilies. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 4/5

Step 3: Change into a fluffy robe

No luxury spa experience is complete without a white fluffy robe, so change in to the closest thing you have at home. I got a white towel robe from The White Company for Christmas a few years ago and it is still my favourite thing to wear around the house.

Step 4: Run a Luxurious Bath

There are two people in this world, those that love baths and those that don’t. I am in the latter group, and very rarely baths. However when I do, I find them incredibly relaxing, especially when I use good quality products.

Products I love:

  • Neal’s Yard Aromatic Bath Foam – The best thing about this product is the amazing aromatic fragrance that instantly transports you to more exotic lands. There’s a mix of lavender, Spanish marjoram and geranium. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 4/5
  • REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil – This scent in this oil reminds me of being back in Marrakech, where the smell of rose and orange blossom fills the air. It turns the bath water into a silky, milky cocoon. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 3/5

Step 6: Nourish your Hair

When I travel I expose my hair to lots of sun, seawater and chlorine, so hair masks are my absolute saviour. Enrich your 5 star home experiences by applying a hair mask whilst you soak in the bath. I usually keep mine on for 15-20 minutes.

Products I love:

  • Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask – I absolutely love all the Moroccan oil products and this hair mask is like a thick nourishing balm. Unlike lots of other hair mask I have used, it washes off quickly and leaves no residue – just silky smooth hair! Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 3/5

Step 5: Do a Mini Facial

Hop out the shower with your hair mask still in, it’s time for your mini facial. Facemasks are a lovely way to unwind and will prolong your 5 star experience. Get that robe back on, apply your favourite facemask and enjoy the relaxing ambience you’ve created. For an extra 5 star touch, remove your face mask with a hot flannel.

Products I love:

  • Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask – This intense mud mask instantly warms when applied on top of your skin, opening pores for an ultra deep clean. The mask doesn’t ‘set’ like traditional masks, but you can really feel it working after 10-15 minutes. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 4/5

Step 7: Moisturise your Skin

Once your hair mask and face masks are both washed off, it’s time to moisturise your whole body from top to toe. I always rush through my morning routine and skip moisturising all together, so it’s a real treat to spend time moisturising from top to toe.

Products I love:

  • Elemis British Botanical Body Cream – Over the past few years I have fallen in love with the Elemis brand, which is widely used in spas around the world. This high-quality cream is the best moisturiser I have ever used and leaves my skin so silky and beautifully scented. You’re left feeling as if you’ve just walked out of an aromatherapy massage. Bathroom Chemistry Rating; 5/5

Life gets hectic and stressful for all of us, but we should never forget to put aside a little ‘me time’ now and again. So next time you’ve had a rubbish day at work and the thought of a Balinese spa feels a million miles away, this little home-spa ritual might be exactly what you need for some much-needed luxury in your life.

What did you think of my 7-step ritual? Do you try doing something similar at home or are you going to try it out for yourself? I’d love to hear your favourite products too! If you enjoyed this post, please leave me a comment in the box below. Jess x
