I recently returned to the Netherlands for a hen party in Amsterdam. I thought it would be useful to put this blog together to help others who are currently researching things to do on a hen party in Amsterdam. Some of the things featured are the things I did during my recent Amsterdam hen do, but I’ve also done some extra research and found some great extra ideas for a hen party in Amsterdam.
Throughout this article we have linked to helpful tours and experiences that would be perfect for a hen party in Amsterdam, and offer the same (if not very similar) experience to the ideas we have included below.

15 Fun Things to do on a Hen Party in Amsterdam
1. Pizza and Prosecco Private Canal Cruise
We did a private canal cruise on our hen weekend in Amsterdam and it was definitely a highlight of the trip. Having the boat all to ourselves made it feel extra special and the boat was stocked with plenty of prosecco that we could help ourselves to. The pizza and prosecco tour lasted for 1.5 hours and took us around all the prettiest canals of Amsterdam. The boat company also arranged for a certain male entertainer join us on the boat for a surprise performance! You can always enquire about this option when booking.

If you prefer the idea of being amongst other people whilst cruising the canals of Amsterdam, why not book a canal booze cruise with unlimited drinks.

2. Head to a Rooftop Bar
Amsterdam has a stylish collection of cool rooftop bars, but you’re never going to stumble across them. They’re for people in the know, or people who have done their research, just like you! Two of the most upmarket and luxurious rooftop bars include LuminAir Amsterdam (Double Tree by Hilton Centraal Station Amsterdam), W Lounge (W Hotel Amsterdam) and Twenty Third Bar (Hotel Okura). They’re an ideal place to go for some fancy cocktails during the day or to start your big hen party night out. For more of a casual scene, check out Canvas and Floor 17. If you’re visiting in the summer months, be sure to check out HOPP too.
3. Take a Guided Segway Tour
A segway tour is always a brilliant activity to do on a hen do. Its a great way to see the destination you’re in but also guarantees a lot of giggles along the way. I always recommend a segway tour after I booked this activity in Milan for my best friends hen party. For an extra laugh, make the Bride dress up in something ridiculous as she whizzes thorough the streets of Amsterdam.

If a Segway isn’t for you, why not try a more relaxing Amsterdam Guided Bike Tour.

4. Let Loose at A Drag-Show Bar
It will come as no surprise that Amsterdam is full of LGBTQ+ friendly bars and clubs, some of which have regular drag shows. For the biggest drag show experience in Amsterdam, book tickets for the “Chèri Chèri” drag show at The Harbour Club Theatre in Amsterdam, where you can enjoy an unforgettable night full of music, dance, comedy, and laughter with your hens. Another much loved Drag and LGBTQ+ destination in Amsterdam is De Lellebel Queer Bar which has regular drag nights on its weekly schedule of events. They have a great cocktail list and prices are reasonable.
5. Visit The Sex Museum or the Museum of Prostitution
A tacky yet entertaining activity to do on a hen party in Amsterdam is to visit the Sex Museum. I won’t go into too much detail, but it’s certainly guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows cause plenty of hysteria amongst the hens. The entry price is very reasonable at 10 euros and there’s no need to book in advance. The Sex Museum is located very close to Centraal Station, on Damrak (one of the busiest streets in central Amsterdam).
There is also Red Light Secrets which is Amsterdam’s Museum of Prostitution.
Top Tip: Why not create some hen party custom lanyards for the trip. They act as a fun addition to the trip as well as a the perfect souvenir for your bride and hens to take home.

6. Go For a Feast at the Trendy Foodhallen
If you’re looking to include a cool foodie experience on your hen party itinerary, check out Foodhallen in Amsterdam’s hip Out-West neighbourhood. This cultural complex is housed within an old tram depot and has a food market that has around 20 street food vendors serving everything from Vietnamese summer rolls to wood-fired pizzas. Let your hen party members order from their favourite vendor then all dine together!
Having been to Foodhallen myself, I think this would be an amazing place to start your night out in Amsterdam. Get food and dinner here before continuing your night elsewhere. Everyone can order from different food vendors and have the food and drinks brought straight to your table via a QR code order service.

7. Book a Secret Food Tour
If your bride is a mega foodie, why not consider booking a food tour with Secret Food Tour Amsterdam. Your English-speaking guide will introduce you to family-run businesses and small locally owned and operated restaurants in Amsterdam. The tour lasts 3 to 3.5 hours in the Jordaan area of town (near the Anne Frank House) and includes 6 different stops where you will taste different foods and drinks. The tours have a maximum of 12 people per tour, so if your a party of 12 you could book one tour out for entire party.
Food tastings include: poffertjes (traditional Dutch batter treat), fresh Stroopwafel from the market, an assortment of Dutch cheeses, kibbeling (fried codfish), fresh herring, traditional Dutch stamppot, a mystery secret dish.

If there’s one tip I can give anyone visiting Amsterdam, its to get out of the Amsterdam Centrum neighbourhood. Centrum is unavoidable as its the heart of the city, but its also incredibly touristy. For more of a chilled out activity, head to the beautiful neighbourhood of Negen Straatjes, which translates as ‘Nine Streets’. Its in walking distance form the Centrum area and has the coolest collection of boutique shops, cafes and hotels to please even the most discerning travel Instagrammer.

14. Amsterdam Treasure Hunt Walking Tour “A Secret Sender”
This fun and unique treasure hunt activity will take you and your hens on a self-guided walking tour of Amsterdam as you find hidden clues, and unlock a treasure box to solve a mystery. You’ll pick up a backpack full of magical tools (including a treasure map) at a shop on the Waterlooplein and set out on an unforgettable adventure. The treasure map leads you to five must-see places in the city centre. At each location, you will learn about Golden Age Amsterdam and solve a challenge to unlock a lock on the treasure box. Open all the locks to solve the mystery and return to the shop to claim a prize. The game takes 2 hours, but the organisers encourage you to take your time to explore along the way. The treasure map also indicates great places to stop for drinks, photos, and local specialties!
The great thing about this activity is that all bookings are private. You’ll work together as a team to solve the challenges.

15. Visit the Anne Frank Museum
If you want to add in a dose of culture to your hen party in Amsterdam, you can plan a visit to one of the cities many museums. If you’ve only got time for one, I would recommend visiting Anne Frank House which located in the house she hid in with her family for over two years during World War II. This is one of Amsterdam’s biggest attractions and booking tickets in advance is absolutely essential.
