What I wore in NYC

07/12/17 ᛫ 8 Comments

If there was ever a time I needed a suitcase full of kick-ass outfits and accessories, it was for my recent trip to New York City. Long days of exploring on foot and cold November temperatures meant I needed to dress for comfort as well as style. To help inspire your winter wardrobe just in time for Christmas, I’m sharing what I wore in NYC.

Look 1: The Unintentional Pretty Woman

It wasn’t until after I shot this look that I realised I was sort of channelling Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman (mostly because of the knee high boots and baker boy hat). Luckily, it fitted the edgy streets of SoHo rather well. The cream jumper dress is from River Island has a turtle neck and the sleeves elegantly rouche at the wrist. I can’t stand itchy wool jumpers and this one is far from it. The suede knee high boots are my new favourite addition to my wardrobe and the low chunky heel makes them very easy to walk in. I finished the look with my brown faux fur from Asos, baker boy hat and tan saddle bag (the perfect Chloe dupe for only £25).

Look 2: Bringing Back the Beret

I added a pop of colour to this fairly plain black outfit with my blush pink beret and faux-fur trimmed gloves, both from Accessorize. The burgundy backpack is another new addition of mine which I used almost every day in New York (I love using backpacks on city breaks so I can stay ‘hands free’). This look also features my new leather trousers from River Island (now only £20) and a new pair of Grey Chelsea Boots, also from Accessorize. Who else is in favour of bringing back the Beret?

Look 3: A Poncho Departure

This look was a total departure for me because I can confidently say I have never worn a poncho in my life, until now. This fabulous check poncho has a fur trim collar and looks effortlessly stylish when you throw it on. I paired the poncho with my favourite mom jeans, my comfy silver boots and my trusty bakerboy hat. I finished the look with some gold statement earrings and my tan saddle bag, both from Accessorize.

Look 4: The Electric Yellow Jacket

I can’t begin to tell you how many people complimented this yellow River Island jacket when I was out and about in New York! It’s definitely bright enough to turn heads and make a statement. It was also wonderfully warm and kept me cosy when walking New York’s Highline. I paired the jacket with a Thinsulate hat and scarf set, both from Accessorize. I love the chunky wire knit. This look also features my leather trousers and suede Chelsea boots.

Look 5: An Autumnal Edit

Always thinking about the photo opportunities, I wanted an autumnal outfit that was perfectly fitting for the orange tones of Central Park. The main focus of this outfit was the chunky cheque scarf which was both cosy and stylish. I wore it with a sleeveless fur-trimmed coat from Zara and added my burgundy backpack for an extra dose of winter style.

I really love the over the knee boots – I’ve been looking for some for ages because they look so stylist. Sold out in my size online unfortunately but I will try check in store.

I love the yellow jacket look because it’s so different but very cool. It’s hard to get warm winter gear that looks good too – I’ve got a really nice jacket from Orobos NYC but it’s not as colourful!

Hello 2023! 🤍 A clean page, a fresh start. I h Hello 2023! 🤍 A clean page, a fresh start.

I had too many words about 2022 for a caption, so I’ve put them all into a blog post.

My “2022 year in review” is live on The Travelista. It’s a longer, personal blog post about lessons, learnings, achievements and travels from year just gone, as well as my hopes and goals for 2023. I’ve put a link on stories for anyone interested. 😊

Wishing you a healthy, happy, adventure-filled New Year ✨

I’m finding a new rhythm for travelling with (and sometimes without) a little one and can’t wait for what’s to come in 2023.

Whether you’re new here or you’ve followed my journey for years, thank you so much for being here, for every like, comment and share. It is this amazing, supportive and loyal community that has enabled me to quit my job this year and return to doing this full time again post Covid.

What was the most memorable place you’ve visited in 2022? ♥️

A little snapshot into our Christmas, the first on A little snapshot into our Christmas, the first one in our new home, blending our families and hosting for 9. ☺️🥂 Hope you all had a lovely day 🎄

Merry Christmas from my family to yours ♥️.
Before I sign off for a little Christmas social me Before I sign off for a little Christmas social media break, here’s a festive photo dump of the past week + sharing my favourite poem🕯🎄🥂

Featuring

➕ A lunch to @bettys with the girls. Making a new tradition.
➕ A family visit to @castle_howard for their spectacular #IntotheWoods Christmas experience. Phenomenal. We go every year and it just gets better and better.
➕ Carols by candlelight at our local church - magic - but so many layers because the heating was broken!
➕ Dust if you Must by Rose Milligan. The perfect tonic in the (potentially stressful) build up to Christmas.

We are hosting family this year and I’m excited! I’d love my house to look like a festive show home but it doesn’t, and that’s ok. (I have a 4 year old making mess twice as fast as I can tidy it).

Fellow hosts, don’t be so busy ‘dusting’ that you miss all the little moments of magic! I’m reminding myself of this too. Swipe to read the poem and you’ll get it. ♥️

Wishing you a perfectly imperfect Christmas 🎄

ad Come with me and my Mum to do some last minute ad Come with me and my Mum to do some last minute Christmas shopping at @junction32. 🎁

We are all feeling the pinch this year with the rising cost of living, so I set myself a challenge to find gifts for under £30. By shopping at outlets like Junction 32, which has over 80 brands offering up to 60% off the retail price, your money truly does go so much further. ♥️

What gifts I bought;

✔️ Slippers from @radleylondon RRP £40 J32 Price £20
✔️Himalayam charcoal gift set from @thebodyshop RRP £36.00 J32 Price £29.50
✔️Wax cheese wheels from independent retailer @themousehouse_lincoln £3 for £16
✔️Children’s cutlery set from @procookuk RRP £10 J32 Price £7

As usual J32 had some brilliant items on offer and a huge amount of choice, even this far into December.

Have you got any last minute Christmas shopping to do? I think I am finally done! 🛍
