A Christmas Gift Guide for Travel Lovers

14/11/16 ᛫ 6 Comments

Christmas is around the corner once again, and I for one am excited (mostly for the cheese and red wine). Christmas shopping can also be fun, as long as you don’t leave it to the very last minute. So to help you on your way I’ve put together this Christmas Gift Guide, specifically for Travel Lovers. Whether you take inspiration from it to write your own Christmas list, or use it to buy something for your loved one, I really hope it comes in useful for you.

From stocking fillers under £5 to super luxurious treats, I’ve tried to include a selection of things to meet all budgets. Each item is easily shoppable online and I’ve included a link to every product in each title. Everything in this list I would either love to receive myself this year, or I already own the product and love it. Either way, it all comes with the Travelista seal of approval!

Statement Headphones – The Frends Layla Rose Gold Headphones £179.95

Gone are the days that headphones had to be clumpy, dorky pieces of equipment. These rose gold headphones from Frends are a fashion statement in themselves. They’re hugely popular with bloggers and I’ve had my eye on them for quite some time. They’re elegant and lightweight with noise cancelling sound quality – perfect for any stylish traveller in transit.

Inflight Travel Kits – Inflight Beauty Sleep Set by Kiss The Moon £32.00

This beautifully boxed set is the ideal gift for those who love to pamper when they travel. I used this exact set on a long haul flight to Mauritius (which I reviewed here). The set includes an aromatherapy afterdark face oil, calming balm, luxurious silk eye mask and ear plugs. I still use the products at home as they smell heavenly and really help me to relax.

The best gifts are always the ones you never dare to buy for yourself, like a pair of designer sunglasses. They’re an extravagance, but one that you can enjoy for years to come. I always buy my sunglasses from Sunglass Hut as their refund, returns and breakage policy is fantastic. They’ll also give your sunglasses a complimentary clean and polish every time you’re passing through the airport so they’re sparkly and new again. I treated myself to a pair of cat eye Prada sunglasses from Sunglass Hut in November 2015 and still love them today.

screen-shot-2016-11-11-at-16-43-15Portable Bluetooth Speakers –Sony SRSXB2B Portable Wireless Speakers £54.99

My friend bought some portable speakers on our holiday to Spain this summer and they were the most used item in her case! Being portable and wireless, you don’t have to worry about wires or adaptors. Just connect to the speakers via Bluetooth and they’ll play anywhere around the world. They’re also ideal at home as you can move them to wherever the party is!

For something with minimal, chic design, check out the Dusky Pink A Groove Speakers £60.00 from Oliver Bonas

screen-shot-2016-11-11-at-16-34-59Travel Purse – Oliver Bonas Yasmine Travel Purse £28.00

I use quite a large and bulky Hugo Boss purse when I am at home in the UK, but whenever I travel I always switch to a thin travel wallet. This really helps to lighten my travel bag and reminds me to leave any cards I don’t need at home. I love this Travel Purse set from Oliver Bonas, which includes a purse with card holders and wallet for travel documents. They also do gorgeous Oyster Card holders too which make a lovely stocking filler.

Ski or Snowboarding Goggles – Roxy Rockferry Goggles £90.00

A pair of ski goggles would be the perfect gift for any frequent skier or snowboarder, especially if they’re about to hit the slopes this winter. I love Roxy’s selection of goggles with gorgeous reflective lenses. My favourite is the Rockferry goggles in Paradise pink. Models       start from only £30.00.

Personalised Luggage Strap – Amazon £4.50

This is an incredible stocking filler for any travel-lover, especially if they’re the owner of a generic black suitcase. For only £4.50 you can create a personalised luggage strap that will be sure to differentiate it on the airport luggage belt. You can pick from a range of different colours too.

A Perfume Travel Set – Dahlia Divin Givenchy £49.50

OK, so perfume isn’t a ground-breaking suggestion for a Christmas gift, but what about a perfume travel set? Lugging the full size bottle of your favourite perfume can be heavy, and take up valuable space in your case. I love the perfume gift sets that include a travel-sized miniature, like this Dahlia Divin set by Givenchy. The travel-sized sprays are also small enough to fit in hand luggage. Perfect for any Travelista.

A Luxury Suitcase – Samsonite Cosmolite Spinner in Midnight Blue – £379.00

A luxury, high quality suitcase is something that will last for years and will make a statement every time you enter the airport. This is the exact suitcase that I am currently using, and I’ve taken it on 12 trips with me this year. It’s so lightweight and that the hard casing keeps all of my belongings protected. It has 4 wheels that spin 360 degrees. It also comes with an integrated locking device, and basically I can’t recommend it enough!

Travel Pouches – Go Clean Travel Set £32.00

If you know a neat freak who loves organisation and travels often, this is the gift for them. I used this set when I went backpacking through Vietnam and The Philippines, and it revolutionised the way I packed. The set has 5 different bags in total including 2 shoe bags, a drawstring bag, a laundry bag and a zip bag (which I use for underwear). It’s especially useful for a multi-stop trip as the pouches make packing and unpacking so much quicker.

Surprise Flights

The ultimate gift for any travel lover is surprise flights! Once the flights are booked you can worry about the other arrangements in the New Year, so it’s a low effort gift that will make a big impact. I always start my search for flights by using Skyscanner to scope out the best deals. My dream Christmas present would be a pair of return flights to New York, but we’ll have to see if the boyfriend is reading!

Great list Jess! I adore the colour of those headphones. I may have to look into the personalised luggage straps as they seem like a fab little stocking filler!

Before Covid, The Travelista was my full time job and sole source of income. Like many others, my business and its earnings took a huge hit during the pandemic. So in August 2020 I started a comms job working 3 days a week for a UK charity.

I continued to work on creating content for The Travelista in my spare time, working weekends, evenings and any moments I wasn’t on Mum duty. I’ve spread myself so thin at times, but in the back of my head I knew The Travelista was a plant I needed to keep watering so that I had the option to hopefully one day return to doing it full time again. Slowly the brand work and travel campaigns began to pick up again until I felt ready to take the leap back into self-employment.

I've officially handed in my notice at my comms job and feel 100% ready to work on The Travelista exclusively again. I also love that I will get to choose my own hours again, spend more time with Theo and restore a little more balance and wellbeing to my life.

I am very proud to be a small business owner and to create content firstly for you, my audience, and secondly for the amazing brands and destinations I work with.

I have a list of ideas longer than my arm so here’s to bringing some BBE - big business energy - to the second half of 2022.

Thank you for all following and supporting my account as this next step would not be possible without having you all onboard for the ride. ✨🤍

Ad Newcastle, I love you! 💓 I moved to Newcast Ad Newcastle, I love you! 💓

I moved to Newcastle as a student aged 18, and I loved every second of the three years I called this city home. This weekend I got to return with my best friend Fi, who I met on the first week of moving here.

13 years later (wow), we have had so much fun retracing our old steps, reminiscing and discovering new areas of the city we once called home.

After spending 2 days here I can confirm that I have just as many *feels* for this place as I did on that first University open day my Dad took me to aged 17. The friendly people, the compactness of the city, the bars and restaurants, the architecture, the sheer value for money (seriously, where else can you get a glass of Prosecco for £3.95?). Swipe for some highlights which include;

1️⃣A walk along the Quayside
2️⃣Returning to Francesca’s pizzeria in Jesmond for the ‘half pizza half pasta’ (if you know you know)
3️⃣Special access to climb to the top of Grey’s Monument
4️⃣Discovering the up-and-coming areas of Ouseburn
5️⃣Brunch at @kilnouseburn, a unique ceramic cafe and studio
6️⃣Buying pick ’n’ mix at @graingermarket like old times
7️⃣Strolling down my old favourite streets such as Side
8️⃣Margaritas at @wc_newcastle, a bar that was once a public toilets on the Bigg Market

Stay tuned for my reel and stories for the full recap of what we got up to, and what I’d recommend doing on your own weekend away in Newcastle.
