Top 10 Packing Essentials for The Adventurous Traveller

28/01/16 ᛫ 10 Comments

Whilst I love checking in to luxury hotels around the world, I still like to think of myself as an adventurous traveller. To me, every trip is an adventure and I want to get far beyond my base and explore the destination I am in. I’ll try anything once and stepping into the unknown is the greatest feeling on earth. If you can relate to this, you’re probably an adventurous traveller too.

But adventurous travel often means leaving the luxury comforts behind and embracing your natural environment. Whether you’re venturing into snow, sea, desert, mountains or jungle, a good adventurer is always prepared. I’ve teamed up with outdoor clothing specialists MUSTO to bring you my Top 10 essentials for the adventurous traveller

Musto-Marine-Adventure-Evolution

1.Good shoes

If you’re embarking on some adventurous travel, chances are you’ll be on your feet a lot and walking / running / climbing will definitely come in to play. Painful shoes have the power to ruin a perfectly epic experience, so take some time to find footwear that is hardwearing, lightweight and comfortable. You’ll be glad you did when you’re half way up that mountain.

2.A Backpack

Backpacks have made a serious comeback in the past few years, which is good news for adventurous travellers. The best thing about using a backpack is that it keeps you hands free for more important things like taking photos or grabbing onto that tree before you slip over. A decent backpack shows that you mean business!

3.Active Wear

Whether you’re heading into tropical heat or icy temperatures, breathable base layers are key to regulating your temperature. Avoid cotton and wool based materials as they will absorb sweat and lock in heat.

4. Language Basics

If your adventure is taking you into a remote part of the world, don’t assume that everyone there will speak English. Try to learn a few of the basics so that you don’t get caught out. Alternatively, you could download one of the many language translate apps on your smartphone to help you out of a tricky situation.

 5. Mosquito Repellent

The likeliness of picking up some mosquito bites is pretty high in warm and tropical climates. Lower your chances of a mass attack with some good mosquito repellent (make sure it contains at least 50% deet). Even the repellent can’t protect you completely, so an after-bite stick to sooth the itching is also a good idea.

6. Guide Book

Blogs, apps and websites now provide us with an answer to practically anything travel related, but what happens with the Wi-Fi fails? Adventurous travel often means going off the beaten track where phone signal and 3G don’t exist. But it’s good news, you can still survive without Google Maps! Taking a guidebook and map can help you plan and navigate without any sign of technology.

7. Waterproof yourself

Adventurous travellers don’t let rain get in the way of their plans, so make sure you waterproof yourself. Pack-a-macs are a great option as they’re lightweight and take up minimal space in your bag. A backpack cover is also a good idea to make sure you’re belongings don’t get wet, especially if you’ll be carrying clothes and valuable electrical items.

 8. Mini First Aid Kit

Accidents do happen and the savvy traveller will be prepared for them. There are plenty of mini travel first aid kits available with all the essentials, but you can also make a DIY kit with a bandage, antiseptic, plasters and painkillers.

 9. Portable USB charger

These little gadgets are incredibly handy and will make sure all your devices stay charged for longer. The best ones on the market have multiple attachments for your different devices, from your camera to your smart phone.

 10. A Smart Flask

If you’re getting active on your adventure, hydration is key. Insulated smart flasks will keep your hot water hot and your cold water cold. If you’re in icy temperatures, it can also stop the water from freezing. Wherever you’re going, your water will stay at prime temperature long after you’ve left your base.

Are you planning an adventurous trip in 2016? What else should I add to this list? If you found this post useful or simply enjoyed reading it, please leave me a comment in the box below.

I also believe one can make every trip memorable and easy. I would like to add other things like a lighter, a shovel, a mosquito repellant, toilet papers, ropes.. Happy Camping!

Never heard of this brand before but will definitely check them out for my next adventure, wherever that may be. Mosquito repellent never seems to work on me though. However much I use, those tiny critters always seem to think I’m a good option for a bit of a snack!

I had too many words about 2022 for a caption, so I’ve put them all into a blog post.

My “2022 year in review” is live on The Travelista. It’s a longer, personal blog post about lessons, learnings, achievements and travels from year just gone, as well as my hopes and goals for 2023. I’ve put a link on stories for anyone interested. 😊

Whether you’re new here or you’ve followed my journey for years, thank you so much for being here, for every like, comment and share. It is this amazing, supportive and loyal community that has enabled me to quit my job this year and return to doing this full time again post Covid.

A little snapshot into our Christmas, the first on A little snapshot into our Christmas, the first one in our new home, blending our families and hosting for 9. ☺️🥂 Hope you all had a lovely day 🎄

Merry Christmas from my family to yours ♥️.
Before I sign off for a little Christmas social me Before I sign off for a little Christmas social media break, here’s a festive photo dump of the past week + sharing my favourite poem🕯🎄🥂

Featuring

➕ A lunch to @bettys with the girls. Making a new tradition.
➕ A family visit to @castle_howard for their spectacular #IntotheWoods Christmas experience. Phenomenal. We go every year and it just gets better and better.
➕ Carols by candlelight at our local church - magic - but so many layers because the heating was broken!
➕ Dust if you Must by Rose Milligan. The perfect tonic in the (potentially stressful) build up to Christmas.

We are hosting family this year and I’m excited! I’d love my house to look like a festive show home but it doesn’t, and that’s ok. (I have a 4 year old making mess twice as fast as I can tidy it).

Fellow hosts, don’t be so busy ‘dusting’ that you miss all the little moments of magic! I’m reminding myself of this too. Swipe to read the poem and you’ll get it. ♥️

Wishing you a perfectly imperfect Christmas 🎄

ad Come with me and my Mum to do some last minute ad Come with me and my Mum to do some last minute Christmas shopping at @junction32. 🎁

We are all feeling the pinch this year with the rising cost of living, so I set myself a challenge to find gifts for under £30. By shopping at outlets like Junction 32, which has over 80 brands offering up to 60% off the retail price, your money truly does go so much further. ♥️

What gifts I bought;

✔️ Slippers from @radleylondon RRP £40 J32 Price £20
✔️Himalayam charcoal gift set from @thebodyshop RRP £36.00 J32 Price £29.50
✔️Wax cheese wheels from independent retailer @themousehouse_lincoln £3 for £16
✔️Children’s cutlery set from @procookuk RRP £10 J32 Price £7

As usual J32 had some brilliant items on offer and a huge amount of choice, even this far into December.

Have you got any last minute Christmas shopping to do? I think I am finally done! 🛍
