As a luxury travel fanatic, I am fascinated to hear about the ever-changing trends in the industry. Where are people going? Why are they going there? Luxury travel can mean very different things depending on the demographic you’re talking to. Reasons to travel and destinations themselves can vary so differently between the different demographics, and it’s so interesting to learn why. So when I stumbled across this really cool infographic from Carrier, I hit the jackpot.
The most fascinating thing to me about this infographic was that the most adventurous demographic in terms of travel destinations seem to be the ’empty nesters’ Singapore, Borneo and Indonesia coming up as their top destinations. I am interpreting ’empty nesters’ as a middle-aged couple whose children have all grown up and left home. Perhaps when a couple’s brood finally ‘fly the nest’ they are left with a new sense of adventure and crave to see more of the world (without the moaning teenagers!). Makes total sense really. It also seemed pretty apt that ‘young couples’ are choosing The Caribbean as their top destination, where I am jetting off to next week with my boyfriend!
As part of the ‘Inspirations’ campaign, Carrier has also developed an innovative image-based search which recommends the perfect destination mood board based on travel dates, the reason for the holiday and preferred hotel style and ambience. My Dream Destinations Moodboard Results
I feel like a totally relaxing and exotic luxury getaway right now, so destinations like Bali, Indonesia and Mauritius came up on my results page. These are all destinations I am dying to go to, so I have to say the search was pretty spot on! Don’t forget to create your own mood board here, but be warned, it will cause a serious case of wanderlust!

Luxury traveling is sooo cool when you are in couple 🙂
I grew up in Mauritius and will be heading there in November for two months. It’s my favourite place in the world 🙂
