You know those poignant days in your life that could change your life forever? Well, this is one of those days for me, as today is the day I move to London to start my new job! For the past year I’ve been based in my home town of York working full time as a Digital Content Executive, as well as blogging my butt off in my spare time. You can find out what I was doing before this by reading my first ‘career blog’ instalment From Tea Girl to Luxury Travel Blogger: How I got Into Travel Blogging. Yep, I actually was the girl that made tea. But look where I am now!
From all my travel, freelancing and blogging escapades, I’ve been offered a new job to be Deputy Editor of The Nth Degree Bookazine. The publication is part of The Nth Degree Club, which is a private members club offering unique michelin starred fine dining and travel experiences all over the world. Their HQ is based in London, which is why I’m making the move! The publication is in its infancy with just two published editions so far, so it’s my job to help put it on the map and launch it into world wide domination!
My role is also going to involve helping the editor to pull the whole thing together, writing articles, doing interviews, selling advertorial, updating content on the webiste, social media and setting up a brand new Nth Degree blog! (very exciting). It’s safe to say I’m going to have my hands full. I’m so excited that my new role will allow me to combine my new found love of digital, social and blogging with my life long dream of working on a print publication. The bookazine itself is a beautifully designed hard back and glossy book with to-die-for luxury lifestyle images.
So how did I get this job? Well, truth is I was put forward for it by the editor I have written freelance for for the past two years. Andie gave me my big break back when I was the graduate tea girl by sending me on a press trip to Marrakech. He probably thought it was a one off, but there was no way I was going to let the opportunity stop there! So two years down the line we are still working together, and I will still continue to do my freelance travel articles for him. I get the best of both worlds! It just goes to show how valuable contacts can be as you never know what opportunity could be around the corner. That’s key advice I’d give to someone trying to get a ‘foot in the door’.
This really is a dream opportunity for me as well as a huge career step up, and I’m so excited to move down and throw myself into the London lifestyle. I’m living with three of my best friends from Uni in South West London, which will make the experience all the more fun. In amongst all of this, I will of course be blogging, travelling and growing The Travelista. Moving to London will give me endless new content for the blog which I can’t wait to share with you all. I’m also excited to attend all the blogger meet ups and press events that I’ve previously missed out on too, so if there’s anything going on, give me a shout! I’m starting off by writing myself a ‘Live Like A Tourist’ London Bucket List to make sure I make the most of my time in the city, which I will be blogging about very soon!
I hope you all look forward to following the escapades and adventures of my new London life through The Travelista. Wish me luck!

great town go often and we all like it; best of luck in londontown.
Wow, congrats Jess!!! This really inspired me. I’m on my own current quest to move to London by this summer to pursue my travel/inspiration writing and international wedding photography career. Just came back from London 2 weeks ago on a biz/travel writing/leisure trip- and I went EVERYWHERE haha. Maybe I can send a few recommendations your way!!
Misterlevius – thanks for your sweet comment. Amazing that you’re coming to London too. I think if you get it right, it’s the most incredible place in the world. I moved down as a graduate but had a bad experience, so this is take 2 for me. Let me know where you recommend and I will put it on my London bucket list! Already ticking lots off 🙂
Jess
