My recent press trip to Malaysia was jam-packed to say the least. We sailed to deserted beaches, chugged through mangroves, braved the world’s steepest cable car, came face to face with monkeys and more. All of this was done in just 3 full days, so it’s safe to say me and me fellow bloggers were rather exhausted and very sad when the trip came to an end. But the silver lining on our itinerary was a Business Class flight back to London, courtesy of Malaysia Airlines. Having flown Economy with Malaysia Airlines on the way out, we were all very excited to upgrade into luxury for our final leg of the journey home. Our Business Class experience started when we…

One of the most memorable parts of my latest trip to Malaysia was the vast amount of wildlife I got to see. Bats, sting rays, barracuda, eagles, pythons and birds all made up part of the trip, but the main highlight for me was the monkeys. I had the rare opportunity to capture these beautiful animals close up on camera and am so chuffed with the photos that I wanted to give them their very own blog post! We stumbled across this pack of monkeys after walking out of a bat cave during our mangrove river boat tour with Langkawi Nature.  I have never been so close to monkeys in my life and it was absolutely fascinating to watch time…

If you’ve ever been to Malaysia or South East Asian islands, you will know that the coastlines surrounding them are some of the most beautiful in the world. If you haven’t ever been, let me tell you the story of my sunset cruise experience. Despite the 19 hours of travelling and impending jet lag starting to creep in, we were straight into our press trip itinerary as soon as we landed in Langkawi. After a quick freshen up in the hotel, it was back out to enjoy a sunset cruise around Langkawi Island. On the way there I could feel the tiredness start to kick in, but I pushed on through. We arrived at The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and were greeted by…

The Malaysian island of Langkawi is known for it’s beautiful beaches, but it is also home to a diverse array of nature and wildlife. As part of my latest blogger press trip to Malaysia, we were invited to experience the full extent of this on a boat tour of the island’s fascinating mangrove river ways that lead out to sea. I love being on water and always find that boats are a really authentic and exciting way to explore a new place. After a 40-minute transfer from The Danna Hotel, we arrived at a busy pier on the side of the river. The jetty was buzzing with predominantly Asian tourists, mostly in big groups embracing the selfie stick! It was…

My love affair with hotel beds continues and I strongly believe that the hallmark of any luxury hotel is in the quality of their beds. As a luxury travel blogger, the first thing I do when I walk into a new hotel room is inspect the bed, then I take photos of it. Over the years of blogging and reviewing hotels, I’ve built up a pretty good gallery of luxurious hotel beds, so I decided it was time to share. Most of the hotels featured I have blogged about, so if you’re interested in finding out more be sure to click the links to the full reviews. Here is my round up of the 12 most luxurious hotel beds from around the…

Today is a very proud day for me as I celebrate my blog’s second birthday! Yes that’s right, two years ago to this very day I published my very first blog post on The Travelista. I remember feeling pretty terrified at the time, scared to ‘put myself out there’ to the World Wide Web for all to see. I was still getting to grips with WordPress and unsure of what people would think of my writing but finally plucked up the courage to hit ‘publish’. I can’t believe how much my blog has grown since that day and it’s safe to say that creating this blog has, quite literally, changed my life. It has enriched so many aspects of my…

16 destinations, 8 trips, 1 year  Tignes, Rome, Monaco, Gstaad, Ibiza, St Nevis, St Kitts, Antigua, St Lucia, St Maarten, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Ipoh, Dubai, Abu Dhabi I write this blog post to you on Boxing Day 2014. A day where the madness of the Christmas period begins to die down and we start to reflect on the year that has just gone by. This got me thinking about the many adventures I have been on and the milestones of this year that have meant so much to me, such as my blog winning a Cosmo Blog Award back in October. This post is even more significant as it is the 100th Blog Post on The Travelista, which is certainly a milestone…

No matter how many times I travel and no matter how many hotels I stay in, there can only ever be one place that is my favourite. People always ask me ‘where is the most amazing place you’ve ever stayed?’ For a while, the answer has been the same, until last month when I got to visit Malaysia on a blogger press trip with Malaysia Airlines. It was on this trip that I got to stay at the outstanding Banjaran Hot Springs Resort in Ipoh, which now takes The Travelista’s No.1 spot. Here’s why… The Natural Beauty The main thing that puts this place in a league of it’s own is it’s location. The resort is situated in-land within a sheltered…

For me, the excitement of stepping into a new luxury hotel never, ever gets old. Not even 20 hours of travelling from London to Malaysia can take away my excitement when stepping through the palatial doors of The Danna Langkawi. If anything, the jet lag and delirium made it all the more memorable, and here’s why… From the moment I stepped through the palatial doors of The Danna, it was clear that the hotel likes to ‘think outside the box’. In all the luxury hotels I have stayed in, I never been treated to a welcome massage, until now. 4 trained therapists from the hotel spa awaited us on our arrival, ready to relieve our aches and pains from travelling…

Tuesday 7th October was a date I have had marked in my diary for months. This was also the case for 150 other bloggers from the UK and around the world, who had all also been shortlisted to WIN a Cosmo Blog Award 2014. This group of 150 bloggers had been whittled down from a staggering 46,500 blogs, outdoing last year’s figure of 43,000. Needless to say, even to be shortlisted is a huge achievement. I was honoured to make the cut into ‘Best Travel Blog’ category for a second year running and over the moon to scoop the award for Highly Commended Travel Blog.  6.00pm – En Route I made my way to the awards with my friend Sophie from The Part Time…

The person I have to thank for my love of travel is my Dad. From a young age, my Dad took me, my sisters and my mum on the most exotic and amazing holidays. So it comes as no shock that both of my sisters have also been bitten by the travel bug. My younger sister, Alanna, has just finished her second year of University in Bath and is about to embark on a South-East Asia Adventure this summer. Alanna will be recording her adventures with a guest column on The Travelista Blog and will be reporting back to us every two weeks. But enough from me, here’s what the mini-Travelista has to say about her trip! Part 1 – Pre-departure excitement! Summer is here…

Since The Travelista was shortlisted for a Cosmo Blog Award earlier this month (yay!), I feel as if I’ve reached my first milestone and achievement with my blog. Traffic to my blog has gone through the roof, I’ve connected with some lovely people and discovered some rather fabulous new blogs to follow. Recently I wrote a post on my career story so far, telling my fellow Travelistas I managed to go from Tea Girl to Luxury Travel Blogger. The response to this post was amazing and I was overwhelmed at how many comments it generated. Lots of people started asking for tips about how to get into blogging. I’ve been blogging for less than a year myself, so I would…

Why wait until 2014 to head off to Brazil? 2013 is all about teaming up with technology on your travels and flying to your destination like never before 1. My Destinations to Watch With its soaring peaks and shimmering lakes, the most exciting new place to ski is Kashmir. Up high in the Himalayas, the country’s main ski resort of Gulmarg has uncharted slopes with fantastic off-piste skiing and features the world’s highest gondola that takes you up 13,400ft. Having only hit the slopes in France so far, I’m itching to sample this long haul ski destination. We all know it’s a given that Brazil will be a popular destination from 2014 with the upcoming World Cup and Olympics in 2016…
